AUSTRIA ~ Animals in the Alps ~

... Great postcard showing many native animals to the Alpine region... the Alps are one of the last remaining areas with truly wild places in central Europe... they are one of the last strongholds of nature.... the mountain ranges of the Alps and the Carpathians, which straddle the border of Austria and Slovakia, are the largest sources of biodiversity in Central Europe... the animals and plants that you might encounter in Austria are exceptionally diverse.... there are approximately 43.000 native species of animals... the Austrian Alps are also home to a large bird population... dawn and dusk are the best times for wildlife-watching... if you're lucky😉... with beautiful EUROPE White-tailed Eagle Bird stamp... Thanks a lot Dustin!(✿ ♥‿♥)
The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe separating Southern from Central and Western Europe and stretching approximately 1,200 km (750 mi) across eight Alpine countries: France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia. The original meaning of the word was 'white'.

The mountains are divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The Eastern Alps belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.

In Austria you'll find a predominantly Central European fauna: deer, stag, rabbit, pheasant, fox, badger, marten, partridge. Native to the Alpine regions are the chamois, groundhog, eagle and mountain jackdaw. Characteristic of the Pannonian fauna is the vast bird population in the reed beds of Lake Neusiedl (heron, spoonbill, scooper, wild goose, and many more).

In recent years, Austria is home again to a small bear population, which can mainly be found in the heavily wooded southern and central mountain regions.

AUSTRIA ~ Court Church - Innsbruck ~

... Beautiful view of the impressive interior of the church... with the unique black marble tomb of the Emperor Maximilian which stands in the center... the most prominent tomb memorial for an emperor in Europe... 28 larger-than-life figures of Maximilian’s family members and forefathers that guard the empty sarcophagus are considered masterpieces of Renaissance sculpture... unfortunately, they are cursed to watch over an empty grave... despite the lavishness and splendor of the church, Maximillian’s remains were never brought to this sacred place and remain in their small, quaint original resting place in Wiener Neustadt, Maximilian's actual burial place... so his elaborate sarcophagus is now called a cenotaph since it does not contain a body... with great matching stamp👍... Thanks a lot Dustin!!  Hope you had a wonderful vacation!(✿ ♥‿♥)

The Hofkirche is a Gothic church located in the Altstadt (Old Town) section of Innsbruck.

The church was built in 1553 by Emperor Ferdinand I (1503–1564) as a memorial to his grandfather Emperor Maximilian I (1459–1519).

The cenotaph alone took more than 80 years to build, with its Hagau marble, bronze relief frieze and, above that, rows of white marble reliefs, created by the artist Alexander Colin. Stone bas-reliefs mark the tomb's ends and sides, depicting events from Maximilian's life.

AUSTRIA ~ KitzbĂŒhel - Tyrol ~

...  Lovely colorful streetview of a small medieval town in Tyrol... one of the most famous and luxurious Austrian winter holiday resorts... KitzbĂŒhel is well known for the Hahnenkamm race, the toughest downhill race of the world... the first ski race, organized by Franz Reisch, took place already in 1895... there are 56 cableway and lift facilities and 168 km of slopes available, as well as 40 km of groomed cross-country skiing tracks... in summer there are 120 km of mountain bike paths and 500 km of hiking trails... Thanks a lot dear Dustin for thinking of me while on vacation!!【ツ】 http://postcardsblogatdustin.blogspot.com/
KitzbĂŒhel is  situated  in the KitzbĂŒhel Alpsbetween the mountains Hahnenkamm (elev. 1,712 m (5,617 ft)) adjacent to the southwest and KitzbĂŒhler Horn (1,996 m (6,549 ft)) to the northeast.

The town gets its name from a Bavarian clan who lived in the Tyrol mountains called the ‘Chizzo’, and ‘Buhel’ which indicates the position of the locality on a hill. So the town became “Chizbuhel” which is now know as Kitzbuhel.

AUSTRIA ~ Kaiservilla - Bad Ischl ~

... Beautiful view of a place steeped in history, romance and tragedy... now a museum but once the "real home" of Franz Josef and Sisi... the summer palace of Austrian Kaisers.... for 60 years, Franz Josef came every year to this summer retreat... the villa gives an insight about the way the "Kaiser" and "Sisi" and their family used to live... so a must see for Sisi-lovers... it is also a place of immense historical significance... especially interesting to see is the desk at which Franz-Josef signed the declaration against Serbia in 1914 that set World War I into action... Big Thanks once more Dustin!! ❁◕ ‿ ◕❁
Bad Ischl  is a spa town and lies in the southern part of Upper Austria, at the Traun River in the centre of the Salzkammergut region.

The Imperial town of Bad Ischl was fundamentally shaped by the love story of the young Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and the graceful Bavarian Princess Elisabeth, called Sisi. In 1853 the 23-year-old monarch and the 15-year-old princess got engaged; one year later they got married in Vienna. The wedding present from the emperor’s mother Sophie was the Imperial Villa in Bad Ischl.

The Imperial Villa is surrounded by an extensive park where the “Marble Palace”, the former tea house of Empress Elisabeth, is located.

Hall in the County of Tyrol is a town in the Innsbruck-Land district of Tyrol located about 5 km of the state's capital Innsbruck in the Inn valley.

In the middle ages salt production made Hall the most important economic centre of Northern Tirol. The town’s name is derived from the Celtic term for salt.

From 1938 to 1974 the town was called Solbad Hall - Solbad was dropped from the town name a few years after the salt mining was closed in 1967.

Hall is submitted on the Tentative List to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Besides breeding birds, tens of thousands which use it as a stopover site can be observed there during spring or autumn migration, around 300 bird species were recorded in this relatively small area out of which 170 nest locally.

Together with the adjacent Hungarian FertƑ-HansĂĄg National Park it forms the Fertö / Neusiedlersee Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.

Cancellation on 150 Death Anniversary of Johann Nestroy.

The Austrian writer, actor, singer, playwright and satirist Johann Nepomuk Nestroy (1801 – 1862) was beyond doubt one of the most significant representatives of the old Viennese popular comedy. His spontaneous improvisations in the middle of a performance were always a thorn in the censor’s flesh, since it was in this way that he was able to find a hearing for his socially critical content. Nestroy died in Graz on 25 May 1862 at the age of 61, following a stroke. Naturally, he continues to live today in his literary works.
