Founded in 1478, Las Palmas is the largest city and the capital of Gran Canaria. The majority of historic and cultural monuments are located in the oldest district of Las Palmas - Vegueta. Among maze of paved streets we find for example: the famous square Plaza de Santa Ana, the huge impressive cathedral Catedral de Santa Ana and a house, in which Christopher Columbus had been staying, and where today is the museum dedicated to him.

...as being a favorite holiday destination for Belgian people the island  is mostly  associated with the stereotype of sun, beach, sea and all-inclusive deals... not this amazing nature and unique landscape...

CANARY ISLAND ~Gomera-The Garajonay National Park-UNESCO~

By seeing all the wonderful views of the "Bosque del Cedro" I understand why this Island is called a "jewel of the Nature"... Just magnificent... Would love to hiking in this mystic ancient forrest!!
Beautiful butterfly stamp too!

La Gomera is one of the seven Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, and 150 kms. from the African coast.
It is is a small island having a total area of some 378 sq kilometres and hardly 20 km. from north to south. Yet it conceals an ecological treasure without precedent and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Few places in the world have such a wealth of natural beauty as La Gomera, even more interesting because of its past prehistoric character.

CANARY ISLANDS ~Fuerteventura~

Yeaaaah!!! Already a new place at the beginning of 2011.... I know the Canary Islands are a populair holiday destination for Belgian people... But to live at such a place with almost 365 days of sunshine must be wonderful... I admit I'm a bit jeaulous of the sender...
The name Fuerteventura (sounds really exotic) is said to come from the word Fuerte (meaning strong) and ventura(viento meaning wind)and sometimes the winds are strong on Fuerteventura.
Love the stamp too!

Fuerteventura a Spanish island, is one of the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa and it is the second largest island after Tenerife.

Fuerteventura is the oldest Canary Island, and was formed about 70 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity
