SINGAPORE ~ Sultan Mosque ~

... Nice view of the largest mosque in Singapore... one of the country’s most impressive religious buildings.... and one of the most imposing landmarks, located in the Malay-Muslim quarter of town...  a good place to learn about Southeast-Asia Islamic Culture... also called Masjid Sultan... spectacular of it's stunning architecture... dominated by the Sultan Mosque’s huge tri-part golden dome... a finial at the very top... a huge onion dome at the bottom  and a lotus decoration connecting... non-Muslimsen can visit if dressed appropriately... Thank you Jobbo!!【ツ】I like your *addiction*...😉
Photo: Albert Lam

The mosque is named after Sultan Hussein Shah, the first sultan of Singapore.. He started construction of this mosque in 1824.

A hundred years later, the old mosque was in desperate need of repair. The present mosque as you see it today was designed by Denis Santry from Swan and Maclaren, Singapore’s oldest architectural firm, and rebuilt in 1932.

The mosque holds great significance for the Muslim community and is considered the national mosque of Singapore. It was designated a national monument in 1975.

SINGAPORE ~ Singapore Harbour - Oil on canvas ~

... Probably the oldest view of Singapore on a postcard... nice oil painting from the sea (1850) by an unknown Chinese artist... can be seen in the Asian Civilizations Museum...... the harbour looks busy with many ships anchored there... three European ships dominate the foreground... also with view of Fort Canning Hill and St Andrew’s Church... this small city-state in Southeast Asia with a total land area measuring only 721.5 square kilometers and one of the youngest nations in the world became one of its most successful... Singapore is celebrating its “bicentennial,” the 200-year mark since its “founding” by British Statesman Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles this year... Thank you Jobbo!【ツ】
Sir Stamford Raffles created the framework for Singapore's early success, it was Singapore's former Prime Minister, the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew who shaped the first quarter-century of Singapore's existence as an independent nation and defined the path to its current success.

Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's first prime minister was in office from 1959 to 1990. The tenure made him the world's longest-serving prime minister in history. Singapore broke away from neighbouring Malaysia and gained independence in 1965.

SINGAPORE ~ Bicycle rickshaw ~

... Singapore today... an Asian icon... coming in all shapes and sizes, cycle rickshaws are not as popular as a mode of transport as they used to be but nonetheless, they are still a common sight in many Asian countries... mostly in use at tourist areas for tourists while exploring the city... historically not as old as you should expecting...  the cycle rickshaw was first developed in Asia in the 1880s but was not used with any regularity until the late 1920s starting in Singapore... when I had a closer look I saw that he is shaving outdoors🙂... resting and waiting for a client... Thanks a lot Jobbo!✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

Photo:© R. Ian Lloyd

The cycle rickshaw is a small-scale local means of transport; it is also known by a variety of other names such as bike taxi, velotaxi, pedicab, bikecab, cyclo, beca, becak, trisikad, tricycle taxi, or trishaw.

Cycle rickshaws are human-powered by pedaling, though some are equipped with an electric motor to assist the drive.  They are a type of tricycle designed to carry passengers on a for-hire basis.

SINGAPORE ~ The Orchard Road District ~

... Great view of the commercial centre of Singapore and one of the most famous shopping avenues in the world... visitors can spend several days here without shopping in the same mall twice...  according to Jobbo the picture is an outdated one (by close of 20 years)... the park at the right has since then replaced by a big mall named "Ion Orchard" ... cost of living in this district is extremely high because of its prime location... Thanks Jobbo!!❁◕ ‿ ◕❁

Despite the district's sophisticated buildings and shrines, there are still many remnants from the past that serve as a reminder that this area was, in the 19th century, an orchard teeming with nutmeg and pepper. Just at the southern end of the road is the beautiful Istana that is highlighted with Nibong palms and with the Botanic Gardens on the northern side.

Singapore Orchard Road was named after the many nutmegs plantations, fruit orchards and pepper farms that used to line the street in the 1830’s.

SINGAPORE ~ Supertrees - Gardens By The Bay ~

.... Amazing view of "The Supertrees"... the Garden's most eye-catching feature... it almost looks like a scene from a sc-fi movie... the trees are illuminated when the sun goes down...  then the light-music show begins, with bright colors that change according to classical music pieces... it must be ✵magical✵... the highlight  is the 128m long aerial walkway which connects two of the Supertrees offering a different view of the Gardens from a height of 22 meters... Big Thanks Jobbo!!ヽ(ヅ)ノ (No postcard thieves here... they are posted on the blog(◕‿-) )
Situated on a huge 101 hectares of reclaimed land right in the heart of Singapore, Gardens by the Bay consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden.

There are a total of 18 Supertrees (vertical gardens) measuring between 25 and 50 metres tall, 11 of them embedded with environmentally sustainable functions like photovoltaic panels to harvest solar energy. Part of the harvested solar energy is used for lighting up the Supertrees while the rest is integrated with the Cooled Conservatories and serve as air exhaust receptacles. Singapore’s historic Chinatown is a bustling mix of old and new... filled with traditional shops and markets as well as cool stores and cafes... one of the most popular places by visitors... an area that’s proud of its heritage...  with many temples dedicated to Singapore’s different religious groups... Singapore's Chinatown is the island's traditional Chinese quarters and, whilst the entire city of Singapore is largely Chinese, the area still retains some of its original charm. The area is also known as Niu Che Shui in Chinese and Kreta Ayer in Malay, both names meaning "bullock cart water", a reference to the carts that used to haul in drinking water.

... Fort Canning Hill, originally known as Bukit Larangan (or "Forbidden Hill” in Malay) has been a local landmark in the city since Singapore's earliest recorded history... Thanks a lot Jobbo!!【ツ】

SINGAPORE ~ Botanic Gardens - Bandstand - UNESCO ~

...This lovely postcard features the iconic Bandstand... many years it was used for evening performances by military bands... though no longer used for music, the Bandstand continues to be one of the best-known features of the Gardens... today many wedding couples chose it as part of their wedding shots... Singapore Botanical Gardens is a beautiful, tranquil place in the heart of the city... Thanks a lot Jobbo!❀◕ ‿ ◕❀
The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 158-year-old tropical garden located on the edge  of Singapore's main shopping belt.
