The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is a 5-storey temple and Museum. The temple is based on the Tang dynasty architectural style and built to house the tooth relic of the historical Buddha, which is claimed that was found in 1980 in a collapsed stupa in Myanmar.
The sacred building in the heart of Chinatown was founded in 2002 and opened to the public only in 2007.
The centrepiece of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is on the fourth floor. It is housed within a stupa made from 402 kg of gold, much of which was melted down from items donated by devotees. Only monks are allowed into the relic chamber, where they conduct daily services.
