KENYA ~ Leopard with cubs - Maasai Mara National Park ~

......Wonderful view of mother and "cute" cubs... this African country is synonymous with safaris and magnificent wildlife... found in regions all across Kenya, the leopard is the smallest of the big cats... they are still one of the major predators of the savannah grasslands... good swimmers, excellent climbers and hunt the widest variety of prey of any of the Mara's major predators.....and with  the highest concentration of predators anywhere in Africa it's no surprise that you can see many big cats there... Thanks a lot Douglas!!【ツ】

Maasai Mara is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves covering an area of 1.510 square km.

Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-system.

Leopard cubs are born with barely visible spots. The mother hides her cubs and moves them from one safe location to the next until they are old enough to begin playing and learning to hunt. When the cubs are about two years old, they live on their own. But the maternal bonds are strong, and offspring sometimes have reunions with their mothers.

Leopards are solitary creatures. Males are almost entirely solitary and females only break their solitude when they are raising cubs.

Nairobi capital is situated  in the highlands of the southern part of the country. Nairobi is Kenya's principal economic, administrative, and cultural center and is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in Africa. Manufactures include processed food, textiles, clothing, building materials, and communications and transportation equipment. The city also has a large tourist industry.
The University of Nairobi (1956), Kenya Polytechnic (1961), and Kenya Conservatoire of Music (1944) are here.

The local Maasai called this highland swamp Ewaso Nai’beri – the place of cold water.

KENYA ~Cheetah~

Got an AWESOME card today.... Not only another one from Kenya but SHAPED like a cheetah with cub! I never seen or received such special card! :-) I'm so glad it arrived in one piece and not damaged!! Don't know a lot about Kenya but have seen many beautiful safari's on TV...

The second one is also sent from Kenya but shows the country of birth from the sender, India. The elephant is soooo beautiful decorated. Although I think he doesn't looks so happy....

The cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal. Over short distances, it can sprint up to 70 miles per hour. Built for speed, it has long, slim, muscular legs, a small, rounded head set on a long neck, a flexible spine, a deep chest, special pads on its feet for traction and a long tail for balance.

KENYA

WOW!! Received an amazing card from Kenya today... It is so difficult to get written and stamped cards from African countries...this one makes me really happy!!

African Elder. The Maasai tribe is the most authentic ethnic tribe of Kenya. The Maasai tribe (or Masai) is a unique and popular tribe due to their long preserved culture. Despite education, civilization and western cultural influences, the Maasai people have clung to their traditional way of life, making them a symbol of Kenyan culture.
