... Beautiful Tibet postcard nr2... a ceremony on the square of Potala Palace with locals in traditional dresses... ever since I saw (more than once😉) one of my all-time favorite movies, "Seven Years in Tibet💙"(1997) I've been fascinated by this place, nicknamed the "Roof of the World"... their amazing culture, religion and overwhelming nature... the most famous landmark in Tibet is the Potala Palace... the saddest thing about the Palace is the absence of its spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama... one can only hope that, given time, His Holiness will return, and give life back to this icon... with also great Potala Palace postmark... Big Thanks once again Ravindra!! (✿ ♥‿♥)
The Potala Palace (Tibetan: ཕོ་བྲང་པོ་ཏ་ལ་) in Lhasa is the administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region and was the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan Uprising and is now a museum.
It was the Fifth Dalai Lama who started construction on the Potala Palace in 1645. The fortress-like structure is composed of two parts, the Red Palace (Potrang Marpo) in the center and the White Palace (Potrang Karpo) on either side to the complex. This 13 story palace stands on the Marpori Hill and has over 1,000 rooms and covers more than 13 hectares.
Potala palace became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

TIBET ~ Girl with Tibetan Mastiff ~
.... First of two great cards coming from Tibet... lovely girl with the famous Tibetan mastiff... these dogs are gigantic, intelligent, aggressive, with broad jaws, powerful muzzles, and long furry coats... unfortunately with also a not so nice story about them... nowadays Tibet is full of unwanted dogs☹.... areas of the Tibetan plateau have become flooded with giant, fluffy unwanted Tibetan mastiffs... once the most sought after dogs by the *rich* in China... but after a collapse in the market for the dogs has left thousands homeless... because Buddhists are also against killing animals, making it hard to control the Tibetan mastiff population within a short period of time.... Thanks Ravindra!!【ツ】→http://lighthousesonpostcards.blogspot.com/
Tibet has a rich history of dogs and is the originator for many of very famous dog breeds. The Tibetan Mastiff also known as "do-khyi.", is a large dog breed.
Originating with the nomadic cultures of Tibet, China, India, Mongolia and Nepal, it is used by local tribes of Tibetans to protect sheep from wolves, leopards, bears, large mustelids, and tigers.
The Tibetan Mastiff is considered a primitive breed. It typically retains the hardiness which would be required for it to survive in Tibet and the high-altitude Himalayan range. The Himalaya is the home to many uncommon and rare species of dogs.

TIBET ~Lhasa-Mount Everst~
...After seeing one of my all-time favorite movies, "Seven Years in Tibet" I've been fascinated by Tibet...their culture, religion, nature...and a postcard from the magical "Mount Everest" sent from Lhasa was for a loooong time on my wishlist!!
Thanks a million Johnson... you've made my day!!:D:D
Love the back of the postcard too!
With an imprinted lotus flower stamp making it a prepaid postcard and a wonderful special cancellation!!
Other stamps: Subject Foreign Musicians - Mozart(Issued 25-07-2010) Rock Painting in Helan Mountain-Hunting (Issued 23-09-1998) About the first two I couldn't find anything"Mount Quomolangma ~rooftop of the world"
Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain (dominant peak of the Himalaya's) above sea level at 8848 metres (29029 ft). It is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet and was first climbed by Sir Edmund Hillary and sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953.
Its Tibetan meaning of 'Goddess the Third' adds more mysterious color and magic power to the subject. As a result, it has intrigued all kinds of people since it was first discovered. Pilgrims trek long distances to present a pious worship, climbing enthusiasts run great risks to challenge its high altitude and the common tourists also yearn for a reverent look at this holy peak.
The area of Mt. Everest has been built as one of the national natural reserves, wherein live thousands of kinds of plants, hundreds of varieties of wild animals and dense virgin forests. Many of these are precious and rare, like the first-class protected animal ounces and the valuable timber sandals, etc.
At the foot of Mt. Everest is located the highest temple in the world, Rongbuk Monastery.

TIBET
It was a ""busy" postcardweek. Got lots of wonderful cards from very different places. Today a lovely panoramic Spain card and one from Tibet both with great stamps. When I tried to find more information about the Tibetan people, I read so many sad stories about them... Hope some day soon there will be a solution for this issue....

Herdsman in Sichcan's ethnic group inhabited areas have carried on a nomadic life for generations and the tents they used to live in are poor in resisting rain, wind and freezy cold.

TIBET ~Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace-UNESCO~
Found two great cards in my mailbox today! An amazing bridge view of Kiev the capital of Ukraine and one from the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama in Tibet ...sent from China..... I don't want to give any political opinion about it, my blog is for showing all different places and connecting people worldwide... But I'm so hoping that it will be possible to resolve this issue between China and Tibet through peaceful dialogue....

Norbulingka (literally: "The Jewelled Park") is a palace and surrounding park in Lhasa, Tibet which served as the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas from the 1780s up until the PRC takeover in the late 1950s.
The palace is located three kilometers west of the Potala Palace which was the winter palace. Additional buildings were added to the park during the first half of the 20th century. In 2001, UNESCO inscribed Norbulingka on its World Heritage Site as part of the "Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace"
