Completely destroyed during WWI, Nieuwpoort is a fishing village renowned for its seafood. This is where the German invasion was brought to a halt, thanks to the flooding of the plain between the sea and the River Ijzer (Ypres).
The marina of Nieuwpoort with its 3 yacht clubs and about 2000 berths is the largest marina in Northern Europe. This beautiful marina is located at the end of the ‘Havengeul’ where you can walk along the IJzer until you reach Nieuwpoort-city.
