TRINIDAD & TOBAGO ~ Tufted Coquette Hummingbird ~

... Wonderful view of one of the most unique creatures alive... the only bird that can hover indefinitely and fly backwards beating it's wings 70 to 80 beats per minute...  they are true acrobats... with 340 species of hummingbirds making them the second most diverse bird family... many tales are associated with the existence of hummingbirds... the Native American Indians believed this bird to be a symbol of luck, devotion, permanence, and the cycle of life... Thanks once more Sarah Lucess!! ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

This resident of Trinidad is found at forest edges, in areas with scattered trees and in cultivated areas. The Tufted Coquette breeds in eastern Venezuela, Trinidad, Guiana, and northern Brazil. It is an uncommon but widespread species, and appears to be a local or seasonal migrant, although its movements are not well understood.

The Tufted Coquette is 6.6 cm long and weighing 2.3 grams. The white to buffy rump band, identifies this species as a coquette. The tufts on the throat are the reason for the name "Tufted".

Charlotteville is a village situated on the northeastern tip of Tobago (the smallest of the two islands) on Man-o-war Bay.

Tobago, like the other islands of the Caribbean, is steeped in a history of European conquest and enslavement. This small island had changed hands as many as 22 times by the European colonizers, which is more often than any other West Indian island.

The history of the village is closely linked to sugar farming, and Charlotteville's deep water harbour was also of importance for the town's development. In more recent times fishing has been important for the economy.

TRINIDAD and TOBAGO ~ Flag ~

... Great new Caribbean "twin sister" island to add to my collection... I'm not really a big fan of all those FOTW, Gf, WOW series of postcards o͜͡o... but to get it as a first one makes it still a bit special... Tobago is mostly known for its tourism... lush mountains, waterfalls, white sand beaches and coral reefs...Trinidad is a huge business travel destination, especially as it is home to booming oil and natural gas industry which makes it one of the most prosperous island in the Caribbean... Thanks a lot Sarah Lucess!!✿◕ ‿ ◕✿
