JAMAICA ~ The Blue Mountains - Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park - UNESCO ~

... Another fantastic new national Park😍...  montane cloud forests are found only in the Blue Mountains... thick mist gives the mountains their blue color and their famous name... it is one of the richest biodiversity sites in the world and a nature-lover’s paradise... the park promotes eco-tourism as a way to support local communities... visitors can enjoy nature walks and hiking, birdwatching, camping and stays in wood cabins... it is incredibly rich in biodiversity, with hundreds of different species of insects, reptiles, trees and flowering plants....  home the 6-inch Giant Swallowtail and over 200 species of native and migratory birds... known for their role in Jamaica’s history as the mountains offered refuge to the former enslaved people called Maroons, which makes it also an important cultural heritage... Thanks so much Andrene for thinking of me while on vacation!! (✿ ♥‿♥)

From backside postcard:
"The Blue Mountains are generally located between Kingston to the south and Port Antonio to the north. Rising 2.300m, they are some of the highest mountains in the Caribbean. The climate of the region is cool an misty with high rainfall. The soil is rich, with excellent drainage which is ideal for coffee."

Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park is one of the biggest national parks which is located on in the eastern end of this Caribbean island and accounts for 4.4%  of the land surface of the country.

This National Park comprises three mountain ranges, the Port Royal Mountains to the west, the Blue Mountains (Jamaica's highest point at 2.300m)  and John Crow Mountains in the east; divided by the Buff Bay and Rio Grande Valleys on the north side of the ranges.

In 2015 the Blue and John Crow mountains were collectively designated a mixed (cultural and natural) UNESCO World Heritage site.
