MOZAMBIQUE ~ Island of Mozambique - UNESCO ~

... Great view of a small coral island that blends centuries of architecture, trade, and tradition... it is the oldest European settlement in East Africa, famous for its Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese colonial architecture... its forts, sacred chapels, shipwreck museums, and artisan communities set it apart from other Indian Ocean islands... a stunning coastline of warm water, nodding palm trees, excellent seafood... the Island of Mozambique is one of Mozambique's fastest-growing tourist destinations... as for most of my African received postcards I donated money to supporting the Bookfeeding Project for local libraries💙... Thanks a lot Alena!【ツ】

Located off the northern coast of Mozambique, Mozambique Island served as the capital of Portuguese East Africa for nearly 400 years (1507–1898) before the capital was moved to Maputo. Vasco da Gama landed here in 1498. Sitting off the mainland in Mossuril Bay, the island is tiny—roughly 3 km long and between 200 and 500 meters wide. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge constructed in the 1960s.

The Island of Mozambique was officially inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.

MOZAMBIQUE ~ Gorongosa National Park ~

... Great view of a park of pure, beautiful wildness... an encounter with rural africa... highlighted as Africa's most remarkable "comeback story," evolving from a war-torn landscape to a premier destination for conservation-focused safaris... widely praised as an authentic, untamed, and "untouched" destination, offering stunning biodiversity without the crowds of typical tourist parks... no paved roads, nothing but sheer wilderness that you may practically have all to yourself... the park integrates conservation with community support, providing health, education, and agricultural programs for local communities, including sustainable, shade-grown coffee projects... Thanks a lot Alena!ヽ(•‿•)ノ

Gorongosa National Park often called the "Serengeti of the South," is a 4,000-square-km biodiversity hotspot in the Great African Rift Valley in central Mozambique.

Established in 1960, Gorongosa was nearly destroyed during Mozambique’s civil war. After losing over 90% of its large animal population between 1977 and 1992, over 110,000 large animals now thrive in the park thanks to the Gorongosa Restoration Project.

MOZAMBIQUE ~ Chimanimani National Park ~

... Nice sunset view of one of the country's newest National Parks... in the foreground the Manica sugarbush endemic to this area of Mozambique... one of 74 amazing endemic plant species in this region... a landscape of dramatic peaks, lush river valleys, and quiet, ancient forests... it stands out as one of the few areas with mountain elephants and other species of medium and small mammals, as well as 164 species of freshwater fish... it also has unique species of birds, reptiles and butterflies... beyond its natural splendor, the park is steeped in history... scattered throughout the mountains are ancient rock paintings left by the San people and other culturally significant sites, offering a glimpse into the human history of this spectacular region...  Thanks Alena!ヽ(•‿•)ノ
The Chimanimani National Park is located in the province of Manica and has a total area of 2368 km² distributed as follows: Total Protection Area 685 km² and Buffer Zone 1683 km². The park is a critical part of the Chimanimani Transfrontier Conservation Area, a shared space with neighboring Zimbabwe. The Chimanimani mountain range, with the highest mountain in Mozambique (Mount Binga) is located at 2436 meters of altitude.

In 2003, this area was marked as a national reserve, but it was only in 2020 that it became a national park.

MOZAMBIQUE ~ FOTW ~

... Pretty flag view from the FOTW postcard series... and my first from Mozambique👍...the national flag of Mozambique was adopted in 1983... the colors and symbols have significant meaning... green represents the riches of the land and yellow is symbolic of minerals... white symbolizes peace while black represents the continent of Africa... the red triangle represents the fight for the nation’s independence... the yellow and red colors in the triangle symbolize the mineral wealth and independence struggle of the country... it includes the image of a Kalashnikov rifle with a bayonet attached to the barrel crossed by a hoe, superimposed on an open book... the rifle stands for defence and vigilance, the open book symbolises the importance of education, the hoe represents the country's agriculture, and the star symbolizes the spirit of the international solidarity of the Mozambican people... as for most of my African received postcards I donated money to charity to buy children's books for local libraries💙... Thanks a lot Alena!【ツ】
