... My first Colombian National Park and the third most popular NP in Colombia... view of the "Nevado del Ruiz" one of the northernmost active volcanoes in South America... because of the high elevation of the summit, the volcano is capped by a large volume of snow and ice. ... Los Nevados National Park is located in the heart of the coffee region... known for its snow-capped volcanoes, glaciers, lakes and forests... about 4,000 different species of vegetation... among the animals found here and being part of the list of protected species, is the Andean condor, the spectacled bear, the páramo hummingbird and the great thrush...Thanks a lot Thibaut!!【ツ】
Parque Los Nevados is located in the Cordillera Central Andes, which is the highest of the three branches of the Colombian Andes. The park was created in 1973 in order to help contribute to the conservation of important ecosystems such as three of the glaciers in Colombia, high Andean wetlands and high Andean forests.
This national park covers an area of 58,300 hectares with a range of altitudes between 2,600m and 5,321m.
The Colombian volcano Nevado del Ruiz is a tall and conical volcano, which has been active for about two million years. With a summit elevation of 5,321 m, it is the highest of the Colombian volcanoes and dominates Los Nevados where rivers spring, that supply the coffee region of Colombia (Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío and Tolima). Its name, Nevado, means "snow-capped".

COLOMBIA ~Monserrate Funicular - Bogotá ~
... Great new country to add to my collectionツ... Colombia has many historical and archaeological sites.... Monserrate hills has always been one of the most visited places of Bogotá ... a well known landmark... the "Funicular" climbs the mountain using a rail system... this train-like car takes you through a tunnel inside the mountain and allows a closer look at the vegetation that grows at different altitudes.... from the top of the hill you have spectacular views of the capital and surrounding areas... Thanks a lot Hernan!!【ツ】
Colombia is located in South America and shares a land border with Panama,Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru. It is the only country in South America that has a coastline on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
Bogotá is the capital and the second largest capital city in South America and at 2640m (8661 ft) it is one of the highest capital cities in the world.
The Funicular carries the Bogotá citizens and the tourists daily. Construction on it began in in 1926, and it was officially opened on August 18th, 1929.
In December 2003, the Funicular started a new phase with a more modern design in its cars which now open their doors facing the sky with a glass roof.
