AUSTRIA ~ Pilgrimage Church of Mariastein - Tyrol ~

... Lovely view of a white castle church... one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Tyrol...perched on top of a 14m cliff above the village... on the top floor of the 42-metre-high tower, which can only be reached by climbing about 150 steps, is the originally Gothic Chapel of Grace... the stunning views over Mariastein's surrounding area are worth every step... it houses the well-known Gothic picture of the Madonna, which has been a major attraction for religious pilgrims since the Middle Ages... on the floor below, the Chapel of the Cross was set up in the 16thC for the numerous pilgrims... with great matching castle church stamp👍... Thanks a lot Dustin! (✿◠‿◠)

Mariastein is the smallest village in the area around the Hohe Salve mountain.

The white castle church was built by the lords of Freundsberg around 1360 to guard the Roman road which used to run below it.

The former Knights' Hall of the castle now serves as the castle museum, which houses, among other things, a Tyrolean archduke's hat and a sceptre donated by Archduke Maximilian III.

The Archdiocese of Salzburg has been running the pilgrimage site since the 19thC.
