St. Johann is located in the middle of Leukental valley. The town center sits at an altitude of 660 m above sea level. The municipal area covers an area of 5,915 hectares and the highest elevation within the municipality is the Maukspitze in the Wilder Kaiser with a height of 2,231 m.The Großache, the principal river of the Leukental, flows through the center of St. Johann.
