Rattenberg is a city on the Inn river and holds the title of Austria’s smallest town - both by population (around 400 residents) and land area (just 10.5 hectares). Rattenberg was first mentioned in a document from 1254. In the Middle Ages, it was a regional transport hub and gained economic and political significance. The town also had its own landing stage for shipping on the Inn and served as an important customs station.
