GERMANY ~ Gutenberg Museum - Mainz ~

... Nice views of one of the oldest museum of book and printing in the world located in the heart of Mainz Old town...and his statue... founded by a group of Mainz citizens in 1900 and dedicated to Johannes Gutenberg, a native of the city... the inventor of printing from movable metal type in Western Europe more than 550 years ago... it presents the history of printing, books, typesetting machines, and printing presses from the 15thC to the present day from many parts of the world... among the museum's greatest treasures are two original Gutenberg Bibles from the mid-15thC...Thanks Dustin! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

An over-life-size bronze statue of Johannes Gutenberg adorns the square that bears his name. The statue is based on a model by the Danish sculptor Berthel Thorvaldsen and was fully restored in 2010.

When the monument was first unveiled in 1837, the people of Mainz celebrated for three full days. Even today, the area around the monument is a lively spot, especially on St. John's Eve when the city celebrates its most famous son.
