... Beautiful Tibet postcard nr2... a ceremony on the square of Potala Palace with locals in traditional dresses... ever since I saw (more than once😉) one of my all-time favorite movies, "Seven Years in Tibet💙"(1997) I've been fascinated by this place, nicknamed the "Roof of the World"... their amazing culture, religion and overwhelming nature... the most famous landmark in Tibet is the Potala Palace... the saddest thing about the Palace is the absence of its spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama... one can only hope that, given time, His Holiness will return, and give life back to this icon... with also great Potala Palace postmark... Big Thanks once again Ravindra!! (✿ ♥‿♥)
The Potala Palace (Tibetan: ཕོ་བྲང་པོ་ཏ་ལ་) in Lhasa is the administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region and was the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan Uprising and is now a museum.
It was the Fifth Dalai Lama who started construction on the Potala Palace in 1645. The fortress-like structure is composed of two parts, the Red Palace (Potrang Marpo) in the center and the White Palace (Potrang Karpo) on either side to the complex. This 13 story palace stands on the Marpori Hill and has over 1,000 rooms and covers more than 13 hectares.
Potala palace became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
