.... First of two great cards coming from Tibet... lovely girl with the famous Tibetan mastiff... these dogs are gigantic, intelligent, aggressive, with broad jaws, powerful muzzles, and long furry coats... unfortunately with also a not so nice story about them... nowadays Tibet is full of unwanted dogs☹.... areas of the Tibetan plateau have become flooded with giant, fluffy unwanted Tibetan mastiffs... once the most sought after dogs by the *rich* in China... but after a collapse in the market for the dogs has left thousands homeless... because Buddhists are also against killing animals, making it hard to control the Tibetan mastiff population within a short period of time.... Thanks Ravindra!!【ツ】→http://lighthousesonpostcards.blogspot.com/
Tibet has a rich history of dogs and is the originator for many of very famous dog breeds. The Tibetan Mastiff also known as "do-khyi.", is a large dog breed.
Originating with the nomadic cultures of Tibet, China, India, Mongolia and Nepal, it is used by local tribes of Tibetans to protect sheep from wolves, leopards, bears, large mustelids, and tigers.
The Tibetan Mastiff is considered a primitive breed. It typically retains the hardiness which would be required for it to survive in Tibet and the high-altitude Himalayan range. The Himalaya is the home to many uncommon and rare species of dogs.
