MALAYSIA ~ Queen Victoria Fountain - Malacca ~

...A great fountain in the middle of a small but well kept park... located next to Dutch and Portuguese historical sites... it has become a landmark and it is a must have background for tourists’ photographs...  a nice small example of a typical Colonial tribute to Queen Victoria and probably the only functioning colonial water fountain in Malaysia...  the fountain is also regarded as an important monument because it is one of the last hints of British rule in the country... Thanks a lot Jobbo!!【ツ】

The Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Fountain is located in the Red Square in Malacca.

The fountain was erected in 1904 by the people of Malacca to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Victoria. Inscribed on the column of the fountain are the words "Victoria Regina 1837-1901", which denotes the reign of the monarch, followed by "Erected by the People of Malacca in Memory of a Great Queen, 1904".

The fountain was only completed three years after the queen's passing, during the reign of Edward VII.
