... Nice view of one of the most important and beloved pieces of art in Helsinki.... Havis Amanda (affectionately nicknamed Manta by locals) is an iconic bronze fountain located at Market Square and stands on pink granite from Vehmaa... the sculpture includes four sea lions and water-spouting fish amid the swaying seaweed at Havis Amanda’s feet... modeled in Paris in 1906 by the celebrated Finnish sculptor Ville Vallgren, this 5-metre-tall Art Nouveau monument was unveiled in 1908 symbolizing the rebirth of the city... every year when the people of Helsinki celebrate Finnish Vappu (May Day) the statue serves as a centerpiece for the Vappu celebrations... the celebration begins officially around "Manta", thousands of people gathering here... Thanks Ulla!
(✿◠‿◠)Helsinki lies in the far south of Finland, on a peninsula along the Gulf of Finland. The most northerly of continental European capitals, Helsinki is often called the “white city of the north,” because many of its buildings are constructed of a local light-colored granite.
