... Great new flag from the FOTW postcard series... the national flag of Iraq's flag features three equal horizontal bands of red, (courage) white, (peace/purity) and black (Islam/battles)... the Takbir (Arabic expression meaning "God is great") in green Arabic script is centered in the white band... the colors used in the flag are the Pan-Arab colors that feature in many flags of the Arab world... in 2008, the current flag was officially adopted and represents the modern state of Iraq and its people... Thanks Essam!【ツ】
Iraq is a country in Western Asia, bordered by Turkey, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria. It has 58 km of coastline along the northern end of the Persian Gulf, giving it a tiny bit of territorial sea. The capital, and largest city, is Baghdad.
The region of Mesopotamia came under Arab influence in 636 AD and it was the Arabs who were first to call the country “Iraq” meaning “the fertile”.
