... Fantastic new country and UNESCO site to add to my collectionđ... view of a rock column to support a wooden drawbridge that connected the castle with the hillside... the medieval Citadel of Salah Ed-Din is a partly-preserved fortress which is an interesting example of Crusader-era fortress.... the castle is a symbol of Syria's cultural heritage and is considered one of the most magnificent remnants of the country's medieval past... a unique gem of Syria... not only for its cultural and historical richness... but also for its location... built in limestone on a ridge between two deep ravines and surrounded by lush mountain forests... Crusaders thought that nobody can conquer this fortress... although concerns were raised about its safety due to the Syrian uprising of 2011 and the civil war, it survived without any significant damage...Thanks a lot Amelia!ăœ(•‿•)ă
Syria is a country in Western Asia, located on the eastern Mediterranean coast. The country borders Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel. The capital is Damascus.
Saladin's Castle, also known as Qal'at Salah Ed-Din or Sahyun Castle, is a medieval fortress in northwestern Syria. Originally a Byzantine and later a Crusader fortress, it was taken by the sultan Saladin in 1188, which led to its modern name.
The castle was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of Crac des Chevaliers and Qal'at Salah El-Din in 2006.
