Leysin is located in the southwest of Switzerland in the canton of Vaud. This was first settled around 400 A.D. when inhabitants of the Rhône valley fled waves of germanic tribes who were overrunning the Roman towns of Vevey and Lausanne as Rome's grip on the western part of its empire failed and faded. It was first mentioned around 1231–32 as Leissins, in 1352 as Leisins.
