PANAMA ~ Miraflores Locks - Panama Canal ~

... Beautiful postcard showing a vessel crossing the Miraflores Locks... on my wishlist for a long time🩵... watching these massive container ships navigate the Panama Canal is an engineering marvel and a truly fascinating experience... especially as you observe the intricate process of draining the water, lowering the ships into the locks, and then seeing them progress through the canal... there is an observation deck providing an impressive view of the ships in the locks... a must-see for anyone visiting Panama... the entire experience is a blend of stunning views and beautifully showcases the country's rich maritime heritage... Big Thanks Amelia! (✿ ♥‿♥)

The Panama Canal was opened in 1914. The canal runs through the Isthmus of Panama and connects the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean. The canal is an important artery in intercontinental transport, as vessels would otherwise have to sail around South America. A ship sailing from New York to San Francisco travels 9,500 kilometers via the canal, which is less than half of the 22,500 kilometers via Cape Horn.

Miraflores comprises three locks that form part of the Panamá Canal and is the name of the small lake that separates these locks from the Pedro Miguel Locks. Each of the three locks raises/lowers enormous ships 54 feet in two stages, allowing transit to and from the Pacific Ocean. In the Miraflores locks, vessels are lifted (or lowered) 16.5 m in two stages, allowing them to transit to or from the Pacific Ocean port of Balboa in Panama City.
