USA ~ Waipio Valley - Hawaii ~

... Great postcard from Glenn's first port stop on his Hawaiian cruise🛳️💙...Waipio Valley is said to be one of the most gorgeous spots on "the Big Island" known for its natural beauty... the Valley is in fact embedded between high cliffs, which descend many streams with several beautiful waterfalls... the shoreline is a soft black sand beach that meets blue waters for absolutely breathtaking views... often called the "Valley of the Kings"... it is considered as a sacred place due to its historical importance to the Hawaiian people... generations of Hawaiians lived down in this valley for years, including famous chiefs and kings that led the Hawaiian people... this valley is one of the most beautiful and secluded places to go to for a hike or horseback ride... Thanks a lot Glenn!【ツ】

The valley is located on the northeastern shores of the Hamaku Coast, tucked in the Kohala Mountains on the Big Island. Out of the seven valleys on the windward side, Waipio valley is the largest and most popular site to visit. Waipio valley is one mile wide at the coastline and six miles deep with 2000-foot high cliffs. This "Valley of the Kings " was the childhood home of King Kamehameha I.

It is named after the river that runs through the valley. Waipi'o means “curved water” in the Hawaiian language.
