ANTARCTICA ~ Port Lockroy - British Territory ~

... Awsome postcard from the southernmost 🐧"penguin post office"🐧 in the world... last year as part of the 80th birthday of Port Lockroy and the 30th anniversary of the charity UKAHT, they offered  the opportunity to send a limited edition postcard with donation to UKAHT and support the roof repair at the same time... "for eight decades, the basic wooden hut known as Bransfield House, home to the world's southernmost post office, has endured winter after winter but with decreasing sea ice we are seeing heavier snowfall...  we needed your help to fix and stabilise the roof above the historic bunkhouse of this special building and to support the conservation efforts"... so, I ordered one for myself😊... each piece of mail is hand-cancelled and then sent by ship to the post office in Stanley, capital of the Falkland Islands where it is flown internationally by the Royal Air Force...  Thanks a lot Laura!(✿◠‿◠)

From backside postcard:
The world's southerrnmost public "penguin post office" at Port Lockroy was openend in 1944 by pioneers who laid the foundations for the vitally important science that happens in Antarctica today. The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) is a charity that conserves these historic sites sharing their stories to connect people with Antarctica and promote our role in protecting it for the future genenations.🠖 https://www.ukaht.org/🠔

Located on the scenic island of Goudier on the Antarctic Peninsula, Port Lockroy is home to Antarctica’s only post office and museum.
