GERMANY ~ State Opera - Berlin ~

..Nice view of an 18thC royal opera house in neoclassical design.... the first opera house and the most significant cultural and historical theater building in the historic centre of Berlin... the Staatsopera Unter den Linden enjoys great popularity today and is one of the world's leading opera ensembles... it offers a varied programme for young and old... it ranges from orchestral pieces, ballet and dance performances to choral performances... it is worth a visit not only for the first-class performances, but also for its beautiful architecture... with special first day cancellation celebrating Bertolt Brecht his 125th birthday... Thanks Dustin!【ツ】
The opera house was opened in1742 commissioned by Frederick the Great and designed by architect Hans Georg von Knobelsdorff. In1843 the Linden Opera was destroyed by fire. The new building was built a year later. It was called Königliches Opernhaus (Royal Opera House). After having had many repairs and improvements, the Linden Opera reopened 1928.

The Opera house was again almost completely destroyed in 1945 and was rebuilt between 1951 and 1955 under the architect Richard Paulick. The building underwent a general renovation from 2010 to 2017.
