Mt. Apo was first declared a national park in 1936 and in 2003 a law was passed declaring it a natural park. It has an area of 80,864 hectares and contains 22 named mountains. The park is located on the island of Mindanao, which is the second largest island in the Philippines.
Mount Apo with a height of 2,954 metres is located in the southern part of the central highlands.
