... Beautiful view of one of the most historic and oldest churches in Spain... a unique landmark... an interesting building because it is pre-romanesque and therefore quite unusual in Europe... very well preserved... it sits on a hill overlooking the city of Oviedo with fantastic views over the valleys and mountains beyond... Thanks a lot Joseph & Assumpta!! (✿ ♥‿♥)
The Santa Maria del Naranco was originally built as a royal palace for Ramiro I of Asturias in 848. It was then converted into a church towards the end of 13thC, the building is of rectangular shape and has two floors, of which the lower level is the crypt.
This monument is in the pre-Romanesque style, and is set at the foot of Naranco Mountain.
The city of Oviedo is the capital of Spain’s Asturias region, in the north of the country.
This church is among the monuments of Oviedo and Asturias and was declared a WHS by UNESCO in 1985.
