Museum Island (German: Museumsinsel) is the name of the northern half of an island in the Spree river in the central Mitte district of Berlin, the site of the old city of Cölln.
Museum Island is a unique ensemble of five museums built between 1824 and 1930. The Altes Museum (Old Museum), the Neues Museum (New Museum), the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery), The Bode Museum and the most well-known of the complex, the Pergamon Museum.
In 1999, the museum complex was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
