... Lovely harbour view of Scalloway the second largest settlement on the islands...Shetland is actually closer to the coast of Norway than mainland Scotland... Thanks a lot Gert!!

Scalloway (Mainland Shetland) - The former capital with its castle built in 1600. It was also home to "The Shetland Bus" in World War II
Scalloway is an important harbour which is located on the West coast of Shetland mainland, it is ideally situated for servicing oil related shipping in the West of Shetland oil fields and the Shetland fishing fleet.
Scalloway Castle overlooking the harbour was built using forced labour by Earl Patrick Stewart, who was executed for treason in 1615. It's a grand example of a Scottish fortified house, but was occupied for less than a century and is now roofless. Beneath the grand banqueting hall are large kitchens and a dungeon where 17th century 'witches', condemned to die on nearby Gallows Hill, awaited their fate.

I thought that I had a pretty good knowledge of WW2, but this is the first time that I have heard of the "Shetland Bus"!
