CZECH REPUBLIC ~ Strahov Monastery - The Theological Hall - Prague ~

... Beautiful view of an early Baroque masterpiece inside the monastery... the oldest section of an historic 17th-century library hall labeled as one of the most beautiful in the world... there are over 20,000 volumes and many of these are religious texts in different languages... the shelving is original and carved walnut, built to fit the room's dimensions precisely... one detail worth noticing: the wonderful baroque globes positioned on the floor near the entrance... they're 17th-century Dutch-made, and the cartographic details are remarkable — coastlines drawn from explorers' accounts that hadn't yet been corrected, continents with speculative interiors... this room is honestly stunning, the stucco ceiling and cartouche paintings are absolutely breathtaking...Thanks a lot Josep&Assumpta! Although it’s called the Strahov Library, there are actually two rooms that form this magical book collection. These are the Theological Hall built in the 17th century and the Philosophical Hall built in the 18th century.

Strahov Monastery is one of the oldest and most important monasteries in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1143 by Jindřich Zdík, Bishop John of Prague, and Vladislaus II, Duke of Bohemia, the monastery is located in the Strahov district of Prague. The monastery was originally established as a Premonstratensian abbey and has played a significant role in the history of the Czech Republic.
