The Potsdam City Palace is a building used as the official winter residence of the Prussian Kings and German Emperors. It was built in 1662-1669, renovated in 1744-1752 and partially destroyed during an Allied bombing attack in 1945 during the World War II.
After the war, Potsdam fell under Soviet occupation and later the communist German Democratic Republic (1949-1990) which destroyed the building in 1960 for ideological reasons. Following the fall of Communism and German reunification in 1990, the former palace was rebuilt (2010-2013).
