KAZAKHSTAN ~ Tamgaly Tas - Almaty ~

... Great panoramic view of a combination of sheer cliffs reaching heights of up to 60 meters with art left here over different eras.. an open-air historical museum along the Ili River, famous for the gorgeously preserved images of Buddha and Bodhisattvas which are accompanied by exquisite Tibetan inscriptions... beyond the Buddhist carvings, the tract holds thousands of older petroglyphs, including early Bronze Age images of animals (deer, goats, camels) and hunters... known for its historical and spiritually significance and unique landscape... the site also serves as a major rock-climbing spot in Central Asia, with over 200 bolted routes on the surrounding steep limestone cliffs... Thanks Yuliya!ヽ(•‿•)ノ

Almaty is Kazakhstan's largest city and former capital. The Tamgaly Tas Petroglyphs are located within the Altyn-Emel National Park. This National Nature Park was created in 1996 and covers about 4,600 km2. It consists mostly of desert and rocky terrain.

Tamgaly-Tas translates from Kazakh as "stones with signs" or "inscribed rocks."
