GERMANY ~ The Berlin Modernism Housing Estates - UNESCO ~

... Nice views of a group of six apartment complexes spread throughout the city... they  are considered Berlin's most important contribution to international architectural history... the Berlin Modernism Housing Estates represent low-income housing architecture from the early 20th century.... these residential complexes had three things that were new: light, fresh air and communal green spaces... many estates included shared facilities like kindergartens, schools, and shops to foster a sense of community... a century later and they are still happily being used... the basic structures are unchanged and show how durable the buildings are, both physically but also socially... Thanks Marcel!【ツ】

The Berlin Modernism Housing Estates are built between 1910 and 1933, representing innovative housing policies of the Weimar Republic. Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, Bruno Taut, Hugo Häring, Franz Hillinger – prominent, well-known architects of the time – designed the housing estates.

In 2008, these six Berlin housing estates were jointly declared a UNESCO WHS known as "Berlin Modernism Housing Estates".
