Founded in Weimar in 1919, it moved to Dessau in 1925 and was forced to close in Berlin by the National Socialists in 1933, the Bauhaus existed for only 14 years. Nevertheless, the famous university of design wrote history, stands for Made in Germany, and provides important stimuli and impulses to questions of the present.
Since 1996, the Bauhaus building and the seven Master Houses in Dessau have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites, along with the Bauhaus building in Weimar. The Houses with Balcony Access, built under the direction of the second Bauhaus Director Hannes Meyer, joined the list of World Heritage Sites in Dessau in 2017.
