Guatemala is a small mountainous country in Central America that shares borders with Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. It has coasts on the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. About 60% of the country is covered by mountains.
There are 37 volcanos in Guatemala, but only three of them are active. Guatemala was the center of the great civilization of the Maya.
The name 'Guatemala' originates from indigenous words for "place of many trees".
