... Nice view of Čumil, an iconic bronze statue and a beloved symbol of Bratislava representing the playful and quirky spirit of the city... this figure, emerging from a manhole cover and peering curiously at passers-by, has captured the hearts of both locals and tourists alike... it was part of a series of humorous sculptures placed throughout the city to add a touch of fun to the urban landscape... its unique design and humorous nature make that many people enjoy interacting with the statue... posing with it for photos or simply admiring its quirky charm... this is actually one of the most photographed objects in the city... you cannot visit Bratislava without saying hi to Čumil😄... Thanks a lot Gian Luca and Raffaella! (✿◠‿◠)
Čumil is one of many statues in the Old Town of Bratislava. Other statues include Paparazzi, Schöner Náci, and Napoleon’s Soldier. These statues appeared in 1997, a couple of years after Slovak independence. This was at a time when the city was polishing its image after its Communist past. Čumil is the work of Slovak sculptor Viktor Hulík, the Slovak word actually means “watcher”.
