The Chisinau City Hall construction was completed in 1902. During World War II, the building suffered significant damage. In 1941, as Soviet forces retreated, the building was destroyed, only to be restored by the Romanian administration in 1944. Unfortunately, it faced destruction again later that year due to Soviet aerial bombings. The post-war period saw a dedicated restoration effort led by architect Robert Kurtz between 1946 and 1948, who meticulously worked to restore the façade to its original glory using preserved photographs as a guide.
