Magdeburg used to be one of the most important medieval cities in Europe and stayed one of Germany’s most important cities until the early modern era.These days the city is a university city and houses many other scientific institutions.
From 1901 to 1906, the Cultural History Museum building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style. The Kulturhistorisches Museum Magdeburg was originally founded in 1906 as an art-historical-oriented Kaiser-Friedrich Museum.
