NEW ZEALAND ~ Akaroa Harbour - South Island ~

.. A wonderful scenic turquoise harbour view next to rolling green hills during sunrise... once a fishing and farm service town, it now serves mainly holidaymakers and tourists... located inside the caldera of a sunken volcano, making it ideal habitat for marine mammals and birdlife... within its waters, dolphins, seals and little blue penguins can be seen for those who go on sailing tours, kayaking excursions and catamaran cruises...the Akaroa Marine Reserve lies at the mouth of the harbour...  Thanks a lot Ravindra!ヽ(ヅ)ノ

Akaroa is located on the Banks Peninsula in the Canterbury region which is one of the South Island’s most interesting volcanic features. It was originally an island that was formed by two individual volcanic cones. The craters of these volcanoes are how what we know as the Lyttelton and Akaroa Harbours.

Although it is located in a former British colony, Akaroa Harbour is decidedly French as this Christchurch enclave was originally founded by pioneering French settlers in 1840, making it the only French town in all of Aotearoa.
