Mount Ararat, with an elevation of 5,165 meters, is the highest mountain in Turkey but it is still an important national symbol of Armenia... Armenia is a part of the Caucasus region and is bordered by Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaija, Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan. Being a former Soviet Republic it gained its independence in 1991.
