GERMANY ~ Winckelmann Museum - Stendal ~

... This nice half-timbered house is now a museum mostly dedicated to the life and work of Johann Joachim Winckelmann, the founder of classical archeology and modern art history... in the Stendal Museum, his life and work is traced in 14 rooms... the museum also presents special exhibitions several times a year, often with international participation... the outdoor area has also many attractions in store... the largest walk-in Trojan horse is in the Winckelmann Park and offers a beautiful view over the Hanseatic city... with cute goblin "Pumuckl" stamp from the Series: Heroes of childhood ... this lively redhead is celebrating his 60th birthday this year... and as always with a wonderful first day postmark💙👍... Thanks a lot Dustin! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Winckelmann Museum is located on the site of the birthplace of Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768). His History of Ancient Art, published in 1764, became a classic text for travelers and cognoscenti of art. In 1768, he was the victim of an insidious murder.

The museum opened in 1955, between 1979-1985 the house was completely reconstructed and extended.
