...Postcard nr2 with new Bpost stamps issued... even though there are several species of frogs in Belgium... they have been rarely featured on a Belgian stamp... so Bpost selected five species of frogs to put that right in 2022🐸... and one of them is this nice view of the "Heikikker" or "Moor Frog"... have seen them in my garden too (but more the reddish-brown color😊)... with wonderful first day postmark👍... The moor frog (Rana arvalis) is a slim, reddish-brown, semiaquatic amphibian native to Europe and Asia. It is a member of the family Ranidae, or true frogs.
The moor frog’s scientific name, Rana arvalis means “frog of the fields”.
This is a small bog frog, characterized by an unspotted belly, a large, dark ear spot, and often, not always a pale stripe down the center of the back. They are generally described as a reddish-brown, but can also be yellow, gray, or light olive.
In Europe, the frog generally inhabits drier and more open sites including forest edges and glades, swamps, meadows, fields, bushlands gardens, etc.
