... Lovely view of cable car "Krossoban" above the valley between two huge mountain ranges... Northern Europe’s first cable car and the most original two-way cable-car that is still in regular traffic... it was built to bring the workers up to the sun which is obscured by the surrounding mountains during the winter months from October to March... the journey takes approximately 5 minutes... the view over Rjukan from the upper station is fantastic, with the mountains rolling away to the south and west and
Vemork hydroelectic power plant nestling in the valley where the dramatic heavy water sabotage operations took place during the WWII... Thanks a lot Malit!【ツ】
The town of Rjukan is situated in a deep valley in the mountainous southern Norway, where the sun shines via huge mirrors and mighty waterfalls plunge from high cliffs into deep gorges below.
The "Krossoban" was constructed in 1928 by Bleichert as a gift from Norsk Hydro to the people of Rjukan (most of them Hydro employees).
The horizontal distance between the lower and the upper station is 814 meters and the difference in altitude is 495 meters, it climbs 60 centimeters for each meter travelled.
