The Prince's Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the Prince of Monaco and was built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, during its long and often dramatic history it has been bombarded and besieged by many foreign powers. Since the end of the 13thC, it has been the stronghold and home of the Grimaldi family who first captured it in 1297.
The Sovereign Prince, satisfied with the services rendered by the "Carabiniers", entrusted them with the guard of the palace and his family. The Ordinance specified that "the service done by the Company of the Guards would be executed henceforth by the Company of the Carabineers who would take the denomination of" COMPANY OF THE CARABINIERS OF PRINCE ". The creation of the Corps of Carabiniers dates back to 1817.
At present its number is three officers, fifteen non-commissioned officers and eighty-eight men of the rank.
