... Another great museum view... it existed for more than 150 years and is the largest public museum in Lower Saxony, with about 7,000 square meters of exhibition space... the extraordinarily broad spectrum of its collections makes it very attractive... it contains a selection of paintings and sculptures spanning nine centuries... as well as interesting archaeological, ethnological and natural history exhibits... there are also changing special exhibitions on various topics... with nice special postmark about the 50th anniversary of the first Moon Landing! Thanks Dustin!!¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The Lower Saxony State Museum is located opposite the New City Hall and was opened in 1902, designed by Hubert Stier in a Neo-Renaissance style. It was renamed the State Museum in 1933, and finally the Lower Saxony State Museum of Hanover in 1950.
The museum has 4 sections:
-The State Gallery: the region’s better fine art from the middle ages to the 220th century, including some master work by Rubens and Rembrandt.
-The Archeology Department: a million artefacts covering half a million years of history, with the really good stuff ranging from early Stone Age to the late middle ages.
-The Ethnology Department: 20000 artworks, craftwork and artefacts from various exotic regions around the world.
-The Natural History Department: mostly Lower Saxony animals and plants, a vivarium with 2000 different species, and a life size model of a dinosaur.
