USA Virgin Islands ~ Blackbeard's Castle - St. Thomas ~

... One more fantastic postcard coming from the Carribean🌞... this 17th-century watchtower known as Blackbeard’s Castle is among the most iconic and famous historical sites on the U.S. Virgin Islands... and one of five National Historic Landmarks located on the islands... Blackbeard’s Castle is a popular attraction based on its history of pirates and smugglers... although it's open for debate whether the notorious pirate ever used the five-story tower as a lookout, one thing is for certain..  the views from the top are amazing ... as being part of US territory you can use US postage stamps... Thanks a lot Glenn!! (♥‿♥)
Blackbeard’s Castle is on a hilltop in central Charlotte Amalie on the island of St. Thomas.

Though much of his early life remains a mystery, Blackbeard most likely began his life as Edward Teach in the sailing port of Bristol, England. He began his career as a hired British sailor during Queen Anne’s War. He eventually settled in the Bahamas under Captain Benjamin Hornigold who taught the young sailor to go “a-pirating.” Soon enough, Blackbeard was commanding his own fleet and stealing ships around the Caribbean and up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Known for his thick, black beard and fearsome reputation, the legend of Blackbeard has influenced pirate legend and lore for over 300 years.
