Mauritius is a small, multi-cultural island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, North East of Reunion and southeast of the Seychelles. Mauritius also controls Rodrigues Island and the remote, sparsely populated Agalega and Cargados Garayos (Saint Brandon) islands.
The capital and largest city is Port Louis.
Trochetia boutoniana is the national flower of Mauritius. Commonly called "boucle d'oreille" which means earring in French, it was declared the national flower on the 12th of March, 1992, when Mauritius became a republic. It is endemic to Mauritius.
