SRI LANKA ~Bambaragala-Kandy~

...Received this wonderful art postcard... one of the most iconic images associated with Asia must be Budha...so beautiful serene expression and the colors are still amazing...probably my last card from Sri Lanka this year!!:D Best Wishes and thanks a lot Ravindra!


Must I say it again... With lots of nice stamps especially the stamp to celebrate the 100 years of the Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind. (issued 17-06-2012)
The Buddhist temple known as the ‘Bambaragala Viharaya’ is a large (rock) cave temple and dates back to the pre-Christian era.

Inside the cave temple there is a dagaba comparatively smaller in size for the devotees to venerate. On the rock surface inside the cave there are murals painted depicting 'Suvisi Vivaranaya' ( 24 Buddhas) giving their enunciation. The seated Buddhas have been painted within the frames using earth colours used in sittara art style. The floral designs and the borders add colour kto the figures painted inside the cave. The paintings belonged to the Kandyan period.
