Fugloy is the Faroe Islands’ easternmost island, but unlike other small islands in the Faroes, it is divided in two settlements, each with their own identity. Both settlements are without a doubt quite old, but while Hattarvík is probably the original name of the settlement,
the name of Kirkja dates back to more recent times.
The Faroe Islands are an archipelago of 18 islands of which 16 are inhabited in the North Atlantic Ocean, situated roughly midway between Iceland, Norway and the northern tip of Scotland. They are an autonomous country, self-governing but within the Kingdom of Denmark. Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands and fishing is the most important Faroese industry.
